Ortho – Normal Bone Structures

•An understanding of the “normal” bone structures helps to identify “pathologic” bone structures

It also helps to define what specifically is the problem

Specifics in medicine is super important

“Femur fracture” is less helpful than “Compound fracture of the mid shaft of the right femur”

•Knee

ProTip:  You can get a “sunrise” view of the knee (patient is laying down, with knee flexed, making the patella appear above the joint, just like the rising of the sun – “ain’t medicine poetic?”).

We talk about the “knee joint” to mean the space between the femur and tibia.  Arthritis can exist in the patellofemoral joint (an x-ray can show this and explain why a patient has knee pain).
