•C) Send urine for full urinalysis/culture and treat while you wait for results
•Correct!
•Your clinical suspicion for UTI is high, and your immediate screening study is “unhelpful” (it doesn’t match the clinical picture and is too limited a study to stop there). It would be prudent to do additional testing (full UA with cultures). In the interim, given the high clinical suspicion of infection, it is not unreasonable to start treatment now while waiting for results.
•Always consider both options:
•Treating, and needing to adjust your treatment based on new data (risk of treatment is low and adjusting is simple enough to do)
•Not treating, and risk worsening of the infection while you wait for results
