CDM Case 1 C

•C) Check another EKG

•Correct!

•The EKG, a diagnostic test which is used to help us make decisions (not tell us what decisions to make), doesn’t match the current situation.  It is not unreasonable to repeat the test for additional information.

•ProTip:

•This case actually represents a “cardiac wink,” where the lesion that is blocking the coronary artery is being built up and broken down over time (as all clots in the body do).  We may have just caught them at a time when the vessel was open.  If we check it again, we may catch it at a time when the vessel is blocked – this is actually needed information in the cath lab so that the appropriate vessel can be investigated/treated first.
